“This City, Our Stories is a vibrant multidisciplinary performance presented as part of Asia Society Texas’ Diwali celebrations, using the Festival of Lights as a lens to celebrate the cultural richness of Houston’s immigrant communities. Anchored by an original script from Indian-American writer and violinist Nanki Chugh, the program interweaves storytelling with four newly commissioned world premieres for string quartet, tracing Diwali’s journey from its ancient origins to its contemporary expression in Houston. Alongside these narratives, folk tales and musical traditions from other immigrant communities converge around shared themes of light, resilience, and renewal. Designed as a family-friendly, community-centered event, the performance honors the voices and experiences that shape Houston’s diverse cultural mosaic.”
